Collapsed Retaining Wall on Jalan Kramat Oyar Undergoes Emergency Repairs

Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) personnel from Cipayung Sub-district, Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta, are conducting emergency repairs on a collapsed retaining wall on Jalan Kramat Oyar, RT 06/04, Kampung Kramat.

To prevent further landslides

Setu Urban Village Head, Dwi Widiastuti said, fifteen 'Orange Squad' members have been dispatched for emergency repairs at the landslide location, which occurred last March 31.

"The three-meter-long and two-meter-deep retaining wall gave way, allegedly because it couldn't support the load of heavy vehicles passing by," she stated, Tuesday (4/14).

She explained, the main cause of the landslide was the surge in traffic volume. This happened after vehicles coming from Bekasi were rerouted through Jalan Kramat Oyar due to bridge maintenance at Sunter River in Kampung Kramat.

"Traffic on Jalan Kramat Oyar has been packed since the rerouting. We suspect the load from heavy vehicles triggered the collapse because the soil couldn't support the pressure," she clarified.

She mentioned that the emergency repairs started on April 13, 2026, involving the installation of dozens of tightly packed bamboo stakes along the slope.

"This technique is employed to stabilize the ground and prevent subsequent collapses, as the retaining wall sits directly on the edge of a steep drop adjacent to the Sunter River," she explained.

She noted that the emergency repairs were successfully completed within a single day, making the road safer for motorists to traverse once again.

"Hopefully, permanent repairs can be realized soon to prevent further landslides and provide a greater sense of security and comfort for the public," she hoped.

This work received appreciation from one of the road users, Slamet (41).

"I commute along this road daily from Bekasi to Ciracas. We really appreciate the swift response from the local authorities. It’s essential for the safety and comfort of everyone driving through here every day," she remarked.
